Hi there! 👋
My name is Matt Berghuis and I am a student in the graphic design for print and Media program at Humber. I chose this program because I love making art and I want to gain a skill set in a field I have never approached before–graphic design. I learned how to paint, draw and sculpt at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and now I want to explore what I can do with a computer using Adobe CC.
I have three goals for this program. One personal, one professional and one general. Personally, I want to become skilled at Adobe so I have a new tool at my disposal for creating art. Professionally, I want to finish this program with a portfolio I’m proud of, and the skills to be a member of the creative team of an advertising agency. Generally, I want to develop my online presence so I can share my work and my life more openly with family, friends and potential employers.
A fun fact about me: Right now I’m also becoming a teacher. This winter I finished the first of two years of the Master of Teaching program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE). I hope to teach junior high (anywhere from grades 4-10) and my teachable subject is history (although I would love to teach art as well). I know it might seem confusing that I entered the GDPW program right now, but I am excited about both programs. I know that the skills I learn in each field will help me become better in the other.
